An extensive and richly illustrated book about this fascinated artists was published in 2007. In 2007/2008, her works were exhibited at the exhibition “Wien Paris [Vienna Paris]” and in 2008 at the exhibition “Gustav Klimt und die Kunstschau 1908 [Gustav Klimt and the Kunstschau 1908]” at the Belvedere. Kunsthandel Hieke, convinced of their quality and forward-looking success, has been presenting the works of Broncia Koller-Pinell for more than 30 years. In 1991, a solo exhibition of this artist was shown, followed in 1993 by an artistic comparison with her artist friend Heinrich Schröder.
Her close artistic links to the group surrounding Klimt as well as her role as a female artist at the turn of the century have made her work particularly interesting and significant internationally.
Koller-Pinell was one of those closest to Gustav Klimt in his circle at the start of the 20th century. She is considered to have been one of Egon Schiele’s mentors. In contrast to the precise and elaborately constructed design of the works of many Secessionists, however, her paintings impress the viewer with their spontaneous character of pure individualism.
She studied under Josef Raab and Alois Delug in Vienna and at the Munich Academy. As early as 1893, she exhibited her works at the Munich Crystal Palace. She returned to Vienna in 1903, commencing her gradual ascent into the elite of Austria’s painters. Her fertile cooperation with Heinrich Schröder starts in 1907. During these years, she also builds up closer contacts with the artists of the Vienna Secession and the Vienna Workshop. The Kollers’ residence of Oberwaltersdorf becomes a center of Viennese society. Gustav Klimt, Gustav and Alma Mahler, Josef Hoffmann, Egon Schiele and many others meet there.
Her career reaches a first climax with the exhibition of works at the Kunstschau 1908 and 1909. In 1911, a joint exhibition with Heinrich Schröder is held at the Miethke Gallery, Vienna. In 1919, she takes part in the first exhibition of the artists’ group “Wassermann [Aquarius]” in Salzburg.
