His very own formal language has made Carry Hauser one of the true greats of Austrian painting. In terms of style, he moves between Expressionism, New Objectivity and Cubism. His contribution to New Objectivity puts him on a par with the German masters such as George Grosz and Ludwig Meidner.
Hauser studied at the Vienna Graphic Teaching and Experimental School and then at the Vienna School of Arts and Crafts under Oskar Strnad, Adolf Böhm and Anton von Kenner. From 1925 to 1938, he was a member of the Hagenbund, acting as its president from 1928. In addition, he worked as a set designer for various theaters in Vienna and Zurich, where he lived as a political refugee between 1939 and 1949.
Having received numerous distinctions and awards, Hauser has exhibited his works throughout most of Europe as well as North and South America.
